Happy Gays Are Here Again

By Orlando Gay Chorus (other events)

2 Dates Through May 14, 2017

ABOUT ABOUT

Orlando Gay Chorus (OGC) wants you to “find your happy” during its spring concert, “Happy Gays are Here Again,” on May 13-14 at The Plaza – Orlando, 425 N. Bumby Ave.

“’Happy’ became a smash hit by the young pop artist Pharrell Williams. Most people know it as the "Minions Song" after Universal’s fun animated movie. We've incorporated a great soloist with our dance team and the chorus to really make you ‘Happy!’ ” said Artistic Director James Rode.

Every style of music from the traditions of spirituals to jazz, pop, classical and Broadway will be presented during this concert.  OGC will explore the exciting medium of spirituals with the performance of “Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit” arranged by Moses Hogan. This arrangement has become a modern standard in choral programming and will include a special guest vocalist from the Orlando community.  Humorous reminders of a silver lining will be shared by the chorus with its performance of “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” from Spamalot.

Other songs include “Everybody Rejoice” from The Wiz; “All for the Best” from Godspell; “Jump” by Van Halen; “Finale B” from Rent; and “Begin the Beguine” by Cole Porter.  Chorus ensembles Nothin’ But Treble, Spectrum, Ménage and OUTLOUD! will perform.

Associate Artistic Director Harold Wright will conduct several songs. Sue Glerum will be the principal accompanist.  Choreography will be directed by Dwight Shropshire and Talia Raymond.

American Sign Language interpretation will be presented by Prof. Debbie Drobney and her students from Valencia College.

Founded on February 14, 1990, the Orlando Gay Chorus is a member of GALA Choruses, an international organization of 190 gay and lesbian choruses worldwide with over 10,000 members.  Now with over 100 singing members on stage, and 30 members who are support-only, the Orlando Gay Chorus strives to inspire individuals, the community and the world through excellence in musical entertainment.
